Based on the notoriously complex Pathfinder tabletop roleplaying system, Kingmaker pulls no punches, throwing players into the deep end right from character creation.
The first task before you is to create a character, which can be surprisingly daunting. Kingmaker offers dozens of classes and variants to choose from, each with several pages of customization options. Basically, the higher your AC, the less likely you are to be hit.
Your character can gain several types of bonuses to their AC, such as dodge or deflection, but keep in mind that you can only have one bonus of each type. If your roll is higher than the target AC, your attack hits. Every character has a base attack bonus that increases every level or so, and you can gain additional bonuses from spells, abilities, or gear. Damage — Damage is usually expressed in terms of dice rolls, so for instance, many early spells do 1d3 damage, or one roll of a three-sided die.
The potency of healing spells is expressed the same way. When creating your character, keep in mind that your strength score increases weapon damage in most cases. Opportunity attacks — Some characters hardly need to worry about opportunity attacks at all, while others can live or die by them. Essentially an extra attack that can happen at any time in a turn, opportunity attacks are triggered when a character tries to either run past an enemy or use a ranged attack within their melee range.
Fortunately, you can use this same vulnerability against your foes. These determine how many spells you can use in a day. Some classes must pick a small selection from all the spells they know at the beginning of the day, while others have access to all their spells at any time, but you always need to expend a spell slot to cast a spell. Your number of spell slots increases on level up, and some items or abilities allow you to recover one after use.
With so many different skills and class builds available to you, it can be tempting to make your character a jack of all trades, but that would be missing the point of a party-based RPG. You can run around with up to six characters at a time, so it makes more sense to have each one serve a different role in the group, both in and out of combat.
For the most part, you only need one character to excel at each skill, since you only get one shot at most skill checks. If you have spare skill points and need to double up on a few skills, though, some options are better than others.
Perception determines your ability to sniff out hidden loot and traps, so having several characters with this skill will reduce your chances of missing some good loot or walking face-first into a spike trap. Trickery allows you to open locks. Having an extra character with a point or two in this skill will at least give you another shot if your usual thief rolls a one on their check.
Use Magic Device allows you to — well, you can probably figure it out. Mobilitylike Use Magic Device, has combat applications, giving a character the chance to move past enemies without provoking opportunity attacks.
Kingmaker is not a game for dialogue-skippers. Important quest details are often buried in conversations or conspicuously placed journals, and your dialogue choices can have a huge impact on the game, from your relationships with your companions to the outcome of certain quests and fights.
Not only that, but breezing through dialogue will also make an already complicated game utterly incomprehensible.Join VIP to remove all ads and videos. I see that some players are struggling to build efficient spellcasting classes. Thus this guide to help for wizard build which is IMO the best class in the game as a force multiplier. Statue Puzzle Solution. What is the Role of a Wizard?
The most interesting trait of a wizard is its capacity to learn spells from scrolls which means that you'll eventually be able to cast all the arcane spells in the game.
As a lot of you have understood, the key to win encounters in pathfinder is to be able to have the "rights" answers to an encounter. Enemies pelter you with elemental damage? A wizard is a specialised instrument. Its spells are few at first but each of them really have the potential to change the way an encounter plays. Also it can easily counter the "few spells weakness" as it has the ability to use wand and scrolls even divine ones so it can cover all the spellcaster roles, meaning more flexibility in your party composition.
You shall think of your wizard as a tactical battle platform able to do amazing burst damage. You want the encounters to be short and lethal for you foes. On a side note its skills are amazing thanks to the high intelligence, and will probably be on cooking duty until the end of its days! The following build is an example for the early levels as they are the most difficult of a damage dealer oriented wizard with strong disables and buffs. It may not be the most optimized way to play as a disabler focused wizard may be more effective but I find the disabling spells strong enough not to need a lot of feats investment at least in the early game.
Also more dakka is always good. Also most of evocation spells trigger an opposite save check so they benefit A LOT from the added difficulty. The rest are useful when you have to play your MC alone.
Precise Shot Need PBS, near the end of the list, else casting a spell on an enemy in melee will have a -4 penalty. Spell Focus Evocation. Spells: Do not take Magic Missile and Mage Armor you start with scrolls on your character and can learn them right at the start. There may be others but this covers most of the useful basics for the first encounters. Snowball, very good damage potential 1d6 per caster lvl. Ear piercing scream very few monsters have sonic resistance.
Shield stacks with Mage Armor, VERY useful to have your AC 21 wiz, altough with careful positioning your wizard should very rarely be attacked, unfortunately it is personnal only.
Hurricane Bow useful at low levels to help clear all the trash mobs without using other spells, use with heavy crossbow for maximum love. Touch of Gracelessness sometime useful disabler to lower the AC of an enemy, it's a touch attack so be careful.
Reduce person: Your tank's friend, more AC and Dex. Other useful lvl1 early spells: Magic Missile see the dedicated section. Mage Armor learn with scroll, useful if you find your mage too often engaged in melee, but with experience it should NEVER happen or only when ambushed with stealth ennemies.
Lvl 5 - Greater Spell Focus. Notable early game spells and their uses. Level 2: Invisibility one of the most potent early spell, it basically enable you to position your damage dealers on the sweet spots before starting an encounter lets stays right next to the Stag lord spawn point for examplescout an area without much danger or even let you disengage a character in melee with less danger not the mage.
Acid Arrow Lingering damage, great range, debatable as you can find scrolls but I leveled before finding one. Scorching Ray Very good early damage, can absolutely wreck with metamagic rod, debatable as you can find scrolls but I leveled before finding one.Do you want to get really involved with a certain game?

Change language. Install Steam. Store Page. Pathfinder: Kingmaker Store Page. Global Achievements. This topic has been pinned, so it's probably important. Some tips based on past PnP experience and my first few hours with the game edits add some commentary for lots of hours with the game. Hp and will saves are important for everyone.
Int and cha are generally safe dumps for classes that don't rely on those stats. Its been confirmed multiple times that your main doesn't specifically need high cha to be an effective ruler. Do note that int only gives you half the bonus in terms of skill points that you get from the PnP version given that there are less skills overall.
You can build a purely dex based frontliner but its certainly tricker to build and you may want to consult a guide. Similarly for a dedicated caster try and have at least an 18 in your casting stat.
This will increase the number of spells you can cast per day and your spell DCs how hard it is to resist your spells. A hybrid caster can generally get away with something lower. Arrow damage via a composite bow is based on str. Crossbows deal flat damage and may seem better than bows particularly for a low str character but note you can't use multiple attacks with them without feats that haven't made it into the game. Edit: Actually the game does away with PnP rules about reloading crossbows so they are a viable option for low strength characters.
Feats Early on, try and focus on taking offensive feats like weapon focus provided you know what weapon you will be using and spell focus provided you know what kind of spells you want to specialise in over defensive feats like dodge and toughness. Don't go down the archery feat line point blank shot, precise shot etc.
Feats are precious. Recreational archers can make do. If you want to dual wield and still hit anything you need to put a light weapon in your off-hand. A light shield is light. A longsword is not light.
You need to take the two weapon fighting feat and shield bash if you want to dual wield weapon and shield. Two-handing a weapon gives you a higher damage bonus from str and more damage from the power attack feat. Its an easy way to build a high damage frontliner without requiring a lot of feats. Of course your AC will be lower without a shield. Some weapons are good ie. Shelyn glaiveGorum greatsword.
Some weapons you will already be proficient in. Also note the domains a deity offers are based on flavour not necessarily balance looking at you Desna.
So some deities are just mechanically better than others. Edit: Some domains like war are still not working right.
